What is Compost?
Compost is the product resulting from the controlled biological decomposition of organic material that has been sanitized through the generation of heat and
stabilized to the point that it is beneficial to plant growth. Our compost, whether it be Thoroughbred or Standardbred Compost, is an organic matter source that
has the unique ability to improve the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of soils and growing media.

Why use Thoroughbred or Standardbred Compost?
Composting in theory is simple. Just mix organic matter with water and plenty of oxygen and the microorganisms do the rest. Yet, it isn’t that simple, and there are large disparities among composts. Some are rich in nutritional value, organic matter and millions of beneficial microbes. While others are virtually dead, either burnt by improper processing or composed of little more than inert wood by-products. Poorly composted material can sometimes do more harm than good.

That’s why we at Thoroughbred Landscaping Products™ chose to become a member of the United States Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Assurance Program (STA). Under the guidelines of this program,  monitoring and records have to be maintained and in our case, testing of our products is conducted every two (2) months by an independent lab with the results made available upon request. This “Compost Technical Data Sheet” allows the end user to effectively compare the characteristics of the STA certified compost you are considering for purchase. When you are shopping, ask if the compost you are considering is STA approved and OMRI Listed®.
